Gerry Nelson is one of Ireland’s leading documentary filmmakers. An award-winning editor, Gerry switched to directing with his acclaimed film on Lourdes, Faith, Hope and Plastic. As a total filmmaker, Gerry is a writer, director and photographer. His documentaries include; 'Ireland’s Own'; 'Family Fortune: DeValera’s Irish Press'; the IFTA nominated films 'The Strange Case of the Irish Crown Jewels' and 'Children in Charge'; and the memorable, touching tale of radio agony aunt Frankie Byrne, 'Dear Frankie'.Gerry’s two decades of experience in television has allowed him cultivate a reputation for creating imaginative and thoughtful programmes. His films have taken him to some of the worlds most far flung corners including The Americas, Arabia, Africa, India, Siberia, The Middle East and Wexford.

Dublin, 12th October 2011 – Gerry Nelson has received the award for best Consumer Broadcast Documentary for “Children in Charge” at the 2011 GSK Medical Media Awards. The documentary, made by Subotica and broadcast on RTE, deals with the uncomfortable and emotional subject of what life is like when a child is obliged to care for a parent.

Documentary Films & Series First cutting his teeth as a director with commercials and then primetime television programming, Gerry moved to documentary filmmaking in 1999. Over the years Gerry has garnered a reputation for creating imaginative and thoughtful programmes. Working as a total filmmaker Gerry is a writer, director and (often times) photographer. His documentaries cover topics of historical, biographical, musical, political and social significance. Commercial/Corporate workGerry’s work as a commercial director has not only given him a keen awareness of agency/client demands but also experience all film and HD formats and the chance to experiment with modern filming techniques - cranes, jibs, steadycam, weaver heads etc - and the latest postproduction has to offer.In 2010 Gerry was delighted to work with FQC Media to provide video content for United Arab Emirates pavilion at EXPO 2010 Shanghai.FQC Media brought Gerry and Award winning UK Director Robert Butcher and Bristol based Wrap 3 together to create a stunnig virtual world where more than a million visitors 'met' Emirati's and learned about their lives.The space consisted of 300 cubes arranged in various sculptural 3d forms, with the main focus being drawn to 7 central columns. Digital content was projected all throughout the 3d space, with viewers being left to freely explore the environment, guiding them to meet and experience the lives of fifteen real life Emirati’s projected on the central column arrangements at life size.Totaling 42 projectors, 96 million pixels and 2TB of content, the installation is arguably the most complex video mapping projects ever delivered.Gerry's Clients include: FQC Media, U.A.E.Eircom, UnileverEuropean Monetary Union (EMU).Ballygowan, Bord Gáis – Ireland’s Gas Supplier, SiemensConduit Europe - TelecomsDaewoo motor cars
